James “Jim” Wiseman, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, in Bristol, Va. He was born in Buck, W.Va., to the late Virgil Leland Wiseman and Ethel Lucille Honaker Wiseman. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Wiseman; sister, Carolyn Bailey; and his first wife, Janet Kay Wiseman.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Rita (Kay) Wiseman; sister, Anna Sue Butler, and her husband, Franklin; daughters, Kimberly Parker, Tabatha Brownschidle, and her husband, Robert; and sons, Scott Sackin and Grant Sackin and his wife, Paula. Jim passed along his baseball skills and love of gardening to his grandson, Robbie Brownschidle, as well as his interest in Biology and obsession with golf to his granddaughter, Katie Brownschidle.

Jim was an educator for more than 31 years in York County, Va., serving as a school sports coach for many of those years. In Matthews, Va., Jim and Kay enjoyed gardening on their little farm by the Chesapeake Bay. While in Bristol, they loved hosting family and friends at their Mendota, Va. farm, as well as serving the community through Meals on Wheels and the Bristol Emergency Food Pantry.

Jim adored his many (mostly adopted, stray) dogs over the years, enjoyed sharing his dry wit with family and friends and looked forward to playing a good game of cards or a board game (as long as he won).

Jim and Kay are members of the First Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Tenn. Due to the COVID pandemic, a private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Humane Society Animal Shelter or the First Presbyterian Church.

Condolences and memories may be left for the family at akardfuneralhome.com.

Akard Funeral Home, (423) 989-4800 is serving the Wiseman family.
